No Prophet Here

Hot out of the studio.
The title comes from the Biblical admonition that "a prophet is not accepted in his home town." (Luke 4:16-30) This pertains to the overall story being told here.

This new album will be part of the new musical “Victoria Falls”. Written and recorded during the Covid lockdown, they suggest new directions in Mark’s writing, underscored by the anxieties of a country that feels at times like it’s about to come apart. A Country Like This kicks the album off true to form with hot guitar riffs matched by piercing, sardonic lyrics. Racing to the Bottom is a haunting ballad that looks at the profound sadness of the George Floyd murder, those that came before, and the sadly predictable fallout since. In the play we will see that these kind of events are not unique to the United States, but they play out endlessly, on and on around the world. Somebody's Daughter conjures up memories of Billie Holiday singing vivid, emotionally charged blues.

This Album features guest vocalist Mella Barnes on Somebody's Daughter and Please Take Me Home and the studio band of Mark on guitars, bass and vocals, Marco Cremaschini on keyboards, Brian Petry on Drums, Jeff Miguel on sax and Gabriel Globus-Hoenich on percussion .
